More to Learn: The Whole Student
This project is designed to assist professors in enhancing the educational process and classroom experience with activities that create long-term awareness of self-esteem and self-worth–which is integral in the totality of the Student Success construct.
a. What is the name of your fun-novation project?
More to Learn: A collection of exercises/activities/prompts that are available via Canvas for the sole purpose of adding to the learning experience for the students. These activities can be offered as extra credit. Additionally, this collections takes the pressure off of the instructor who may not have a command of a particular subject matter and might feel pressure to create these activities on their own if given an institutional mandate.
These elements can incite creativity while offering a unique learning experience which could position Houston Community College as a trendsetter. Elements could include:
-
Meditations
-
Express workouts.
-
Visualizations
-
Journaling exercises.
-
Decision-making skill drills.
-
Personality assessments
-
Relationship Skills/Topics
-
Various topics on health
b. Who is the intended audience?
Students of HCC and their circles of influence.
c. What wicked problem does it address? How does it address this problem?
The wicked problem addressed is the inability to complete their degree because of a lack of or capacity to cope with situations outside of the classroom. Cultivation of self-worth, self-awareness, mindfulness, and other soft skills that are current buzzwords in the organizational landscape in which we are to equip our students to not just survive, but thrive, within.
d. How does your fun-novation project add value to the world?
My project adds value to the world…because it adds value to the student.
e. What kind of prototype will you create (drawing, model)?
Three exercises (written exercise, video, ect.) that could be apart of this collection.
f. What format will you using for your final presentation (video, slide deck, etc.)?
Unsure of this at the time of this post.
